Dr. Doris-Owanda Johnson has been described by her clients and patients as a combination of an old-fashioned medicine woman, a new age healer, and an out and out lifesaver!  In her years of dedicated study and practice, ‘Dr. Doris’, as she is affectionately called, has helped thousands of people of all ages and walks of life heal from a variety of diseases, illnesses and imbalances since 1993.

“It gives me great pride and joy to help others regain and maintain their health.  It’s as if I’m assisting them in having the chance to truly enjoy life and fulfill their life purpose.  I take a genuine interest in my patients’ care.  At Heart & Soul Institute we focus on the total health of the individual – body, mind, emotions, spirit…”

A licensed acupuncturist and herbalist, Dr. Doris received her second Master’s degree from Yo San University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and her Doctorate in Oriental Medicine from American Liberty University.  As part of her practice, she uses the ancient discipline of Oriental medicine, as well as many cutting edge, integrative and complementary practices of modern natural medicine.

As an herbalist and nutritionist, Dr. Johnson uses the art of balancing alchemy and energy to assist her in creating healing and rejuvenating formulas through the use of herbs and food.  This allows the patient the opportunity to experience faster, more sustained healing.  Her family practice allows her to treat a wide spectrum of people whose medical issues range from acute and chronic pain to digestive and respiratory disorders, as well as auto-immune disorders.

With an extensive background in dance and Tai Chi Chuan, Dr. Doris practices and instructs individuals and groups through workshops on dance and Tai Chi as they relate to overall health and wellness.

Dr. Johnson believes in servicing the community as well as the individual and has been an activist and teacher for many years.  Dr. Doris is currently an instructor and intern supervisor at Dongguk University, Los Angeles.  She is also a member and volunteer of the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association, and has volunteered in Haiti with Acupuncturists Without Borders following the 2010 earthquake.  Dr. Doris offers educational workshops and lectures to the public to impart knowledge and empower individuals on the use of traditional medicines for the safe and effective treatment and prevention of disease.  As the founder of Heart and Soul Institute of Natural Medicine, Dr. Johnson’s greatest passion is to promote radiant and balanced health for all.
